Prof. R.K. Shevgaonkar, Department of Electrical Engineering, (currently on lien as Director, IIT Delhi) has received fellowship of IEEE.

Prof. Mahesh Tirumakudulu, Department of Chemical Engineering, has been awarded the prestigeous Swaranjayanti Fellowship of the DST, for the year 2010-11.

Prof. V. Jothiprakash, Department of Civil Engineering, has been awarded the "ISTE Maharashtra State National Award for Outstanding Research Work in Engineering and Technology for the Year 2011(Shared)".

Prof. Azizuddin Khan, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been awarded ICMR International Fellowship for young Bio-Medical Scientist-FY-2011-2012.

Prof. V. Jothiprakash, Department of Civil Engineering, has been awarded the "Surendranath Mukherjee Memorial Prize" for best research paper in Civil Engineering Journal of Institution of Engineers(India).

Prof. Rinti Banerjee, Department of Bioscienceds and Bioengineering, has been awarded a Grand Challenges Explorations Grant from the Gates Foundation, based on an open global innovation challenge for global health research.

Prof. Asmita Mukherjee, Department of Physics, has been awarded the Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Prof. S.V. Kulkarni, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been elected as a Fellow of the INAE Young Engineer Award 2011.

Prof. Sudarshan Kumar, Department of Aerospace Engineering, has been selected for the INAE Young Engineer Award 2011.

Prof. H.B. Singh, Department of Chemistry, has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).

Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).

Prof. Anshuman Shukla, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been selected for the IEI Young Engineers Award 2011-12 in the Electrical Engineering discipline.

Prof. Subimal Ghosh, Department of Civil Engineering, has been awarded the IEI Young Engineers Award 2011-12 in the Civil Engineering discipline. Also, he has been selected for the INAE Young Engineer Award 2011.

Prof. Tarun Kant,Institute Chair Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, has been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences India (NASI).

Prof. Anurag Mehra, Department of Chemical Engineering, has been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences India (NASI).

Prof. C.P. Rao, Department of Chemistry, has been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences India (NASI) in recognition of his outstanding contribution to research in Chemistry.

Prof. Azizuddin Khan, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been awarded "ICMR International Fellowship for Young Bio-Medical Scientist" for the year 2011-2012.

Prof. Haripriya Gundimeda, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been made a member of a high level expert committee set up by the Government of India to prepare the road map for developing Green National Accounting for India. This is a recognition of her work in carrying out green accounting for select sectors in India.

Prof. M. Ravikanth, Department of Chemistry, has been chosen to receive the "CRSI Bronze Medal" in recognition of his contributions to research in chemistry

Prof. Krishna Jonnalagadda, Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the "Hetenyl Award" for the best research paper in experimental mechanics for the paper entitled "Experimental Investigation of Strain Rate Dependence of Nanocrystalline Pt Films".

Prof. H.B. Singh, Department of Chemistry, has been chosen to receive the CRSI silver medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to research in Chemistry.

Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, Department of Energy Science and Engineering, has received the first prize (Rs. 50,000 and a certificate) from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, for his book on renewable energy in Hindi. The title of the book is Akhshay Urja Prodhyogiki- Ek Vyavaharic Gyan, published by Prentice Hall of India.

Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, has been awarded a $10000 Yahoo! Faculty Research and Engagement award for a proposal he sent in his area of Machine translation. The award is in the form of an 'unrestricted gift'

Prof. D.N. Singh, Department of Civil Engineering, has been awarded the "John R. Booker Excellence Award 2011" for the advancement of research, education and practice of Environment Geotechnology and development of novel techniques to simulate contaminant transport in geomaterial under laboratory and in-situ conditions.

Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been selected for the prestigious G.D. Birla award for Scientific Research for his important contributions in the area of electronic communications.

Prof. Siva Prasad, Department of Physics, has been selected for the award of "Chevalier de l'Ordre de la Legion d'Honneur" (Knight in the Order of the Legion of Honour) by the French Government in recognition of his scientific achievements and contributions to enhancing scientific co-operation between France and India. It may be recalled that Prof. Prasad served as the Director of CEFIPRA on lien from IITB, till recently.

Prof. Dibyendu Das, Department of Physics, has been awarded the APS-IUSSTF award. The Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and the American Physical Society (APS) have launched the APS-IUSSTF Professorship Awards in Physics in 2008. This program funds physicists in India or the United States wishing to visit overseas to teach short courses or provide a "physics lecture series" at a U.S. or Indian university.

Prof. S. Kotha, Department of Chemistry, has been selected for the Prof. Y. T. Thathachari Prestigious Tesearch Award for Science - 2010.

Prof. D. Chandrasekharam, Department of Earth Sciences, has been appointed as an Independent Director on the Board of O.N.G.C. and also on the Board of Western Coalfields Ltd., Ministry of Coal, for a period of three years.

Prof S. M. Khopkar, Professor Emeritus, Department of Chemistry, has been bestowed the Life Time Achievement Award by the Indian Chemical Society Kolkatta at the 47th Annual Convention of Chemists at Raipur of Chattisgarh State on December 23, 2010.

Prof. A.K. Singh, Department of Chemistry, has been elected on the Council of the National Academy of Sciences India for a period of two years.

Prof. J. Adinarayana, CSRE, has been elected as Vice President (2010-12) of the Asian Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture (AFITA)

Prof. K. P. Madhavan, Professor Emeritus, Department of Chemical Engineering, has been awarded "CHEMTECH CEW Leadership and Excellence Award".

A Documentary film "The Stitches Speak" produced by Prof. Nina Sabnani, Industrial Design Centre, has won the 6th award at CINEQUEST Film Festival, San Hose, USA for best short documentary.
The film has since it's creation won a lot of awards including Best Short Film at the Bollywood and Beyond 2010 Film Festival at Stuttgart, Germany,July 2010.

Prof. D S Misra, Department of Physics, A recent publication from his group has been highlighted in Nature India in an article titled "Graphene Nanomesh". The original paper was published in Nanotechnology (vol 22, p-025704).

Prof. G K Lahiri, Department of Chemistry, has been awarded Ramanna Fellowship (second time) by The Department of Science and Technology.

Prof. Sudhir Ghorpade, Department of Mathematics, has been elected as Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences India (NASI).

Prof. Ramgopal Rao, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been elected as Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI)

Prof. S. K. Maiti, Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been elected as Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI).

Prof. Azizuddin Khan, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences,, has been awarded "Hermes Fellowship by the Ministry of Foreign affairs, France, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS),and La Fondation Maison des sciences de lhomme (FMSH), France in 2009-10.

Prof. Jayesh Bellare, Department of Chemical Engineering, has been selected for the award of the NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee Award for 2010 by the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), for his application oriented research innovations in the physical sciences.

Prof. D. Chandrasekharam, Department of Earth Sciences, has been appointed as an Independent Director on the Board of Indian Rare Earth Ltd. (Department of Atomic Energy) for a period of three years.

Prof. D. Bahadur, Department of Metallurgical Engg and Materials Science, has been selected by the Materials Research Society of India (MRSI) for the 'MRSI Distinguished Lecturership' for the period 2011-2012. The award will be presented at the Annual General Meeting of the MRSI scheduled to be held at Bhopal during February 14-16, 2011.

Prof Hetu Sheth, Department of Earth Sciences, has been selected by the Indian Geophysical Union (IGU), Hyderabad, to receive the 'Krishnan Gold Medal' for the year 2010. The medal will be presented at the 47th Annual Convention of the IGU, on 8th December 2010 in Hyderabad.

Prof. S L Dhingra, Institute Chair Professor & Emeritus Fellow Transportation Systems Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, has been appointed Member of new Executive Committee of the International Benefits Evaluation and Costs (of Intelligent Transport System) group (IBEC-ITS) for 2010-2011 representing India.

Prof. D.N. Singh, Department of Civil Engineering, has been elected as Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE).

Prof. Souvik Mahapatra, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been elected as Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE).

Prof. H. B. Singh, Department of Chemistry, has been awarded Ramanna Fellowship (second time) by the Department of Science and Technology.

Prof. Nand Kishore, Department of Chemistry, has been elected as the President of the Indian Chemical Society (Mumbai Branch) for a period of two years.

Prof. Ramasubramanian, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, han been selected for the Prof. R.C. Gupta Endowment History of Science Lecture Award (2010) of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI)

Prof. Karuna Jain, SJM School of Management, has been selected for the award of "Best Professor in Operations Management" by Asia's Best B-School Awards instituted by CMO Asia.

Prof. S. Bhargava, SJM School of Management, Paper titled "Exploring psychological contract contents in India : the employee and employer perspective" by Prof. S. Bhargava, SJM School of Management, has been chosen by Emerald as an Outstanding Research Paper in Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2010.

Prof. Shevgaonkar, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been selected for "2011 IEEE Undergraduate Teaching Award" by IEEE Board of Directors for his contributions to inspirational classroom teaching and development of outstanding textbooks and e-learning material for electromagnetic waves and transmission lines.

Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, has been appointed as Associate Editor of the prestigious Journal ACM Transactions on Asian Language Information Processing (TALIP)

Prof. V. Ramagopal Rao, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been selected for the "DAE-SRC Outstanding Research Investigator" award by DAE-SRC.

Prof. Ashwin Gumaste, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been selected for the "DAE-SRC Outstanding Research Investigator" award by DAE-SRC.

Prof. Dulal Panda, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, has been selected for the "DAE-SRC Outstanding Research Investigator" award by DAE-SRC.

Prof. U.B. Desai, Director, IIT Hyderabad(AP), has been selected for the award of J.C.Bose Fellowship.

Prof. R. Murugavel, Department of Chemistry, has been selected for the "DAE-SRC Outstanding Research Investigator" award by DAE-SRC.

Prof. S. Kotha, Department of Chemistry, has been selected for the award of J.C. Bose Fellowship.

Prof. D.V. Khakhar, Director, IIT Bombay, has been selected for the the award of J.C. Bose Fellowship.

Prof. D. Chandrasekharam, Department of Earth Science, has been elected to the Board of Directors, International Geothermal Association(IGA). IGA is located in Iceland and has over 6600 members across all over the countries. He is the first Indian to be elected to this prestigious post.

A paper by Prof. S.G. Bhargava and his student Ms. Upasana Agarwal,SJM School of Management, titled "Examining the Antecedents and outcomes of Psychological Contract Breach: Role of Trust and Procedural Justic", has won the best paper award at the 11th International HRM conference held at the Aston Business School, Aston University, UK, during June 9-12, 2010.

Prof. T.N. Singh, Department of Earth Sciences, has been awarded the First P.N. Bose Mineral Award 2009 by the Indian Mining and Engineering Journal.

Prof. Chandra Venkataraman, Department of Chemical Engineering, has been invited to give a plenary lecture at the International Aerosol Conference to be held during August 29- September 3, 2010, at Helsinki, Finland. The international conference, held once every four years, is hosted by the International Aerosol Research Assembly (IARA), an organization of 12 national aerosol research associations. She will deliver a lecture titled, "Using interactions: From challenge to opportunity."

Prof. V. K. Singh, Department of Chemistry, has been selected to receive the CRSI Silver Medal in recognition of his extensive and outstanding contributions to research in Chemistry.

Prof. H.B. Singh, Department of Chemistry, has been awarded the Ramanna Fellowship by the DST for the second time in recognition of his excellent academic and research work.

Prof. Mahesh Tirumkudulu, Department of Chemical Engineering, has been admitted as a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, India.

Prof. Deepankar Choudhury, Department of Civil Engineering, has been selected for "The Asian Pacific Association for Computational Mechanics (APACM) Award 2010 for Young Investigators in Computational Mechanics". The award is given once in three years time to recognize the outstanding accomplishments through published papers by researchers below 40 years of age.

Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Computer Center, has been selected jointly (with another nominee) for the "Hari Om Ashram Prerit Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Research Award" for the year 2009 for his contributions and achievements in the field of Electronics, Telematics, Informatics and Automation.

Prof. Subimal Ghosh, Department of Civil Engineering, has been awarded the prestigious Boyscast Fellowship 2009-10 by the Department of Science and Technology.

Prof. S.A. Khaparde, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been awarded the "DSK Energy Award 2009" by the Institution of Engineers(India)'s Pune local centre. The award is for outstanding contribution in the Energy Sector, and cites Prof. Khaparde's several contributions in this area. The award was presented on February 8, 2010.

Prof. Azizuddin Khan, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been selected for the Bilateral Exchange Fellowship Programme 2010-2011 of Indian National Science Academy(INSA), New Delhi. He has also been selected for ESRC-ICSSR India-UK Scholar Exchanges 2009.

Prof. M.S.C. Bose and Prof. R.P. Vedula, Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded Prof. A Jaganmohan Award for Professional Development. The award has been instituted by Dr. Shivaram Murthy, brother of Prof. Jaganmohan. The award is for the goodness in teaching.

Prof. V.K. Singh, Department of Chemistry, has been selected for the prestigious J.C. Bose Fellowship of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Prof. Rabi Bastia, Department of Earth Sciences, has been awarded the Doctor of Science in Petroleum by the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.

Prof. A.S. Khanna, Corrosion Science and Engineering, has been conferred the First Akzo Nobel awards for Excellence in Coating Research and Promotion for his excellent contribution to Research in Waterborne Coatings and promoting Coating Research in India' The award has been sponsored by Akzo Nobel, a leading international paint company, in China and India. The award was conferred during the 7th International Symposium on Surface Protective Coatings, on January 28, 2010.

Prof. Krithi Ramamritham, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore.

Prof T.K. Biswal, Professor and Head of Earth Sciences Department, has been awarded the National Mineral Award for Basic Geosciences, 2008 by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.

Prof. Vivek Agarwal, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been selected for the IETE Bimal Bose award for power electronics for the year 2010.
Also, Prof. Agarwal has been appointed DAAD Research Ambassador for the academic session 2010-2011 in recognition of the outstanding commitment and leadership in promoting Indo-German relations in education and research.

Prof. S Kotha, Department of Chemistry, has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore.

Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharya, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been conferred the Manthan Award 2009 - the South Asia award for best practices in ICT for Development of Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, at a function held in Delhi on December 19, 2009.(more on www.manthanaward.org andhttp://www.cfilt.iitb.ac.in/wordnet/webhwn)

Ms. Sunita Kedia, Research Scholar, Department of Physics. Her paper titled "Photoluminescence of ZnO inverse photonic crystal" fetched the Best Poster award, at the International conference on Advanced Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology (ICANN 2009) held at Guwahati during December 9-11, 2009. The paper was co-authored with Prof. R.Vijaya.

Prof. Srinivas Aluru, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been elevated to the IEEE Fellow grade with effect from January 1, 2010. His citation states his "contributions to computational biology"

Prof. Deepankar Choudhury, Department of Civil Engineering, has been selected for ISTE's "Maharashtra State National Award - 2009" for his outstanding research work in Engineering and Technology. The award has been instituted by the Government of Maharashtra and will be presented during the Inaugural Function of the 39th Annual Convention of ISTE at NITK Surathkal on December 18, 2009. He has also received Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award - 2009 for his outstanding services, achievements and contributions in the field of academics. This award was presented on the eve of 92nd Birth Anniversary of late Smt. Indira Gandhi on 18th November, 2009, at India International Centre, New Delhi. This award is instituted by All India National Unity Conference, New Delhi, and given to selected people from various fields for their outstanding services, achievements and contributions to promote National Unity, Integration, Brotherhood and Oneness.

Prof. Tarun Kant, Department of Civil Engineering, has been selected for the IIT Roorkee-Khosla National Award for Lifetime Achievement in the field of Engineering. Prof. Kant was invited to receive the award at the annual convocation of the institute on Nov 14, 2009.

Prof. Rajakishore Nath, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences,has received the Best Conference Paper award for the paper entitled "Supervenience & Emergentism: A Study in Philosophy of Mind" at the International Journal of Arts & Sciences Conference which was held in Gotthenheim, Germany, in November 2009.

Santhosh Kumar Gowdhaman, second year M.Tech student, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT-Bombay won the third prize in Nebula'09. This is an All - India level Analog design contest. Around 850 students from all over India participated in the contest. The contest had two rounds and 18 students were selected for the finals which was held at the company office, Cosmic Circuits Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, on December 26, 2009

K.Krishna Mohan, Research Scholar, Reliability Engineering, has been selected for IEEE Reliability Society Award for the year 2009.

Professor Emeritus S. M. Khopkar, Department of Chemistry, has been bestowed Life Time Achievement Award by the Indian Council of Chemists (ICC) at its 28th conference held in North Gujarat University Patan

Mr. K. Krishna Mohan, a research scholar in the Interdisciplinary Programme in Reliability Engineering, working under the guidance of Prof. A. K. Verma and Prof. A. Srividya, has been selected for the "2009 IEEE Reliability Society Scholarship Award". This entails a one-time $2,000.00 (USD) scholarship. The IEEE Reliability Society Scholarship co-ordinator, Dr. Robert Loomis, in his correspondence notes that "...this scholarship is a testimony to his outstanding scholastic achievements and his demonstrated interest in IEEE and reliability-related professional activities". This scholarship is awarded annually to five prominent students working in the field of reliability engineering all across the world.

Prof. Devang Khakhar , Director of IIT Bombay and Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering, has been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI, Allahabad).

Prof. Ravindra Gudi of the Department of Chemical Engineering has been selected for the prestigeous Herdillia Award for Excellence in Basic Research, by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers. The award will be conferred in IIChE's annual meeting in December 2009.

Prof. Anurag Mehra of the Department of Chemical Engineering has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.

Prof. Santosh Kumar Gupta of the Department of Chemical Engineering has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.

Prof. R. Murugavel of the Department of Chemistry has been awarded the Materials Research Society of India (MRSI) Medal for 2010. The medal will be presented at the MRSI Annual General Meeting at SP University in Gujarat, during which Prof. Murugavel will also deliver the MRSI Medal lecture. At present Prof. Murugavel is on sabbatical and occupies the prestigeous DFG Mercator Chair at Bochum University, Germany.

Dr. Ganesamoorthy, a student of the Department of Chemistry who did his doctoral work under Prof. M. S. Balakrishna, has been selected for the first "2009 Eli Lilly Asia Outstanding Thesis Award" (Second Prize), by the Discovery Chemistry Research and Technologies Division at Eli Lilly & Company, Indianapolis, USA. He is presently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Calgary.

Prof. V.S. Raja of the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science has been selected by NACE International for the NIGIS Meritorious Contribution Award for the Year 2008-09 in recognition of his contributions in the area of Corrosion and Corrosion Prevention. The award is sponsored by Corrtech International Pvt. Ltd. The award was presented during a recent International Conference & Expo on Corrosion, on 30 September 2009.
Prof. Raja has also been elected as a Member of NACE International Research Committee.

Prof. Subimal Ghosh of the Department of Civil Engineering has been selected for the "Young Scientist Award 2009-10" from Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA). The award will be given at the 97th Indian Science Congress to be held in Trivandrum during 3-7 January 2010.
